You say potato...

We'll begin with a few food-related words that have different names on either side of the pond.

• aubergine - This is the British word for eggplant. Actually, it is the French word ... go figure!


• corgette - Again, we have another French word, this one translates into zuchini.


• squash - This is not, as you might guess, a gourd, but instead a concentrated juice which is meant to be diluted with water, most commonly in the flavors of orange and blackcurrent.


• parsnip - A large, white carrot thing, which we don't tend to eat very often in the US, but is an integral part of the British Roast Dinner.


• chips - Not Lays or Fritos, but big chunky French Fries.


• crisps - What we call chips!
